We are already at the gates of new elections and it seems that there are many options that are presented to citizens to elect government. This would be the natural assertion in a democratic country before a new electoral process: there are many options, that is a good thing, now to choose. The problem is that in our Spain I have nothing clear that the options are really many, that it is good that they are so many and that what one chooses when casting the vote is a real participant of what happens next.

We have had in Spain a quasi-bipartisan system that after many years, since the Transition, building with lights and shadows (like any important creation) a modern country that responded as best as possible to the social and democratic State of Law that we enshrine in our Constitution He was mortally wounded by the wolf of populism, who threw himself into the jugular of the repetition of clichés, the corruption of ideas and people, the repetition of unfulfilled proposals ...

Mouths and newspapers were filled to talk about the new policy. It was not very well known what it was, but it was something radically different from the above. The "do not represent us" of 15M, the party scheme where ideas come and go according to published or hidden opinion, the movements of those who are frustrated by the system and have the paradigm NO to everything without knowing what they give their YES; all this happened to represent the new political class of our country, which does not have to worry about being incongruous because everything is ephemeral, temporary, fast. That ideological liquidity, that relativism in which everything can change, be molded and altered without anything happening and that causes us to not have certain references that let us know what to expect, induces ablution, which in politics is called abstention. Because this populism, which advocated a new way of representing the people, it turns out that at the moment of truth it is incapable of providing solutions to the real problems of the Spaniards.

«It would be good if the new policy explained to the Spaniards how their arrival has improved in Spain»

We have experienced in recent years the lack of importance of ideas in the political debate. And at this moment that absence is even greater. When what prevails is whether one or another character, who does not have personality, presents himself to the elections; when what fills the present is with whom or who will agree with each other without the agreements having to do with a country project. When the final result is an uncertainty that will be revealed in future negotiations in closed offices but without telling the voting people what will really be done with their vote. How do they want citizens to participate? How to avoid the weariness and abandonment of those who once exercised their citizen duty and today feel betrayed and used?

There is only one way: to speak to citizens with the truth of what one is. The parties, the programs, the projects are much more than the names that lead them. It would be good if "the new policy" (which takes the reins of their formations so democratically) explained to the Spaniards how their arrival has improved in Spain. Plurality and alternation are healthy and necessary, but important projects do not have demagogy and individualism as a mortar. The more frank the politicians with themselves and the clearer with their voters, the more participation and enthusiasm they will find in this electoral confrontation. That is what we must demand from the candidates. Let's not let them be in this field of proper names that strips important ideas and Spain of the future.
