In Iraq, thousands of protesters took to the streets again Saturday (October 5th). Shots were heard in the capital and in other southern cities. They could be snipers.

Iraqi protesters talk about their presence in the streets of Baghdad. Lucile Wassermann and Simona Foltyn, special envoys from France 24, were able to witness it on Friday 4 October while covering the demonstrations.

For now, these snipers remain "unidentified" according to the government but have already made many victims. Among them, Hussain Hassam, 18 years old. He was shot in the head on Friday while demonstrating in Baghdad.

His family lost his only son. His sister, Noor Husam, is inconsolable. "Heart of my heart, what will the government do, they will never be able to return it to me, may God forgive them," she exclaims, sobbing.

A question now crosses the streets of Baghdad: who is responsible for these sniper fire? Contacted by phone by France 24, a government spokesman said an investigation was currently underway to identify those responsible.
