An American husband has filed a lawsuit in a court in North Carolina against his wife's lover, accusing him of being the reason for his divorce and his wife.

The Greenville court awarded $ 750,000 to Kevin Howard after discovering that his wife, who filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage, was cheating on her with a co-worker.

Howard told a local television station that his wife told him at first that she wanted to divorce because he was too late at work and always missed home, but discovered that she had a relationship with a colleague.

The husband then filed a civil complaint under a 19th-century law, when wives were considered the property of their husbands.

The law, which is still valid in only five other US states - Hawaii, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota and Utah - allows a spouse to sue another person believed to be the cause of the breakup of the marriage, for "unlawful or harmful acts," according to law firm Vavones in North Carolina. .
