Víctor Ullate has announced that the private dance company he created 31 years ago, and in which 25 professionals dance, has reached its "end" because of the " economic unfeasibility ", despite receiving a grant from the Government of the Community of Madrid of around one million euros.

The company was created in 1988 and since 2009 is an associate of the Theaters of the Canal de la Comunidad de Madrid , so it has its residence there and can use its rehearsal rooms. "I feel very bad; closing it is a huge stick," said the choreographer.

"I never expected to close after 31 years of fighting. Cutting this is like cutting off part of the history of our country's ballet," said the creator, who will keep the school and foundation that bears his name open.

The decision, which already advanced this July in the presentation of its version of Antigone for the Festival of Merida, is due to "the lack of economic means, of not having where to get the money to pay not only for hotels but also not even the dancers' diet, "he acknowledges.

The closure affects "directly" 25 dancers but, precisely, "also the public." "For Spain this is a huge stick because part of our history is lost. I have already called all the institutions. The Ministry of Culture, the Community of Madrid already knows it. Everyone has had a lot of will, they have been very generous as to assist us, but the country is as it is, "Ullate emphasizes.

His main goal in the future, he announces, is "to make La Casa de la Danza a reality, where children in a situation of social exclusion, without financial resources, can realize their dream of becoming dancers, a house where these children can not just dance, but live. "

He will focus on his pedagogical work: " Go back where I started, in the classrooms and continue fighting to keep my legacy and continue to train future dancers as it has done so far, dancers who have reached the main stages of the world," he says.

With its foundation they have already launched the Young Ballet, with which they have already performed "functions that have been very successful as Peter Pan ".

In a previous statement Ullate thanks its dancers, "great dance stars", the administrative team, the public and the institutions and companies for the support they have been given since 1988, " key piece of this dream of bringing dance to their maximum level and letting up the art of Spain ".
