A ceremony was held in Tokyo, attended by the Emperor and Empress, to commemorate the 60th edition of the “Overseas Nikkei Tournament” where Nikkei people from all over the world deepen exchanges.

His Majesty arrived at the ceremony venue in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo at 3:00 pm on the 1st, and was greeted by executives from the Association of Overseas Japanese Nikkei hosting the tournament.

The “Overseas Nikkei Competition” is held every year for the purpose of exchange between Nikkei people around the world, and the Imperial Family has a history of attending every time.

His Majesty attended the 60th anniversary ceremony, and nearly 200 Nikkei from 19 countries participated.

The Emperor said in his words, “I wish that the circle of exchange between Nikkei people all over the world will further spread and the bond between Nikkei society and Japan will become stronger”.

The participating countries were introduced one after another, and when Nikkei got up and appealed by waving their national flags, both men were applauded with smiles.
