The meeting between Vladimir Zelensky and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session promised to be quite a protocol event. The President of the United States had to express unchanged, and therefore formal support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity, and wish success in the fight against corruption. The first person in America announced this rather shameful topic for Ukraine even before the meeting as item number one on the agenda of proposed issues for discussion.

By the way, Zelensky, answering journalists' questions, expressed slight displeasure with the fact that his American counterpart “advertises” Ukraine as a state steeped in theft, and urged him to monitor how the new government brilliantly solves this problem.

But the protocol failed. Thanks to the scandal that erupted in the United States and preliminary steps to begin the process of impeachment trump, a rendezvous between the two politicians was the most striking and expected event of the week. Representatives of the Democratic Party accused the head of the American state of talking to Zelensky last week by pressure on the latter to force the Ukrainian ruler to hand over materials corrupting Trump’s main rival in the upcoming presidential election, the former vice president Joe Biden, and his son Hunter.

This story has been going on for quite some time. Its essence is that Hunter, joining the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas producer Burisma Holdings, received a total of $ 3.5 million for his work, some of which was transferred to his father's account. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine opened a case against the company on suspicion of corruption. Biden Sr., threatening the then president of Ukraine with freezing financial assistance from the United States, forced him to dismiss Attorney General Viktor Shokin. The Burisma case was quietly covered. According to a certain American official (presumably a CIA official) who filed a complaint against Trump, the American president exceeded his authority in a telephone conversation and revealed state secrets. Democrats in Congress announced their intention to begin the process of removing the head of state from office.

In fact, this venture is doomed to failure, because even if it is possible to collect the necessary number of votes of congressmen, the Republican majority in the Senate is guaranteed to fail the bill. Trump's support among Republicans is surprisingly high at 91%. Democrats began to make a fuss for another purpose - to divert the attention of American society from the circumstances of the Joe Biden case, since its corruption history, if it finds confirmation, threatens the future US presidential candidate with a collapse of his political career, or even worse.

At least the head of Trump's campaign headquarters, Paul Manafort, went to jail on very similar charges.

Zelensky was in an extremely difficult situation. From Trump, he needed nothing in the political sense, except for the very formal support, and then he unexpectedly found himself, as he put it, “drawn into” the election campaign in America. The new ruling team of Ukraine, mindful of the cost of Petro Poroshenko’s support for Clinton in the last US election, did not want to speak on any side at all.

That is why Biden’s case and his incriminating materials were not going to give a move. It is even more important that the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, who has a serious influence on Zelensky, and a significant number of people from the president’s circle are associated with the Democratic Party.

But publicly stating that there was no pressure on him, Vladimir Zelensky unexpectedly acted as a supporter of Trump, because he supported exactly his version of the telephone conversation. By the way, she found confirmation in the published transcript of the conversation between the presidents. Trump simply says that it is important to complete the investigation of the Biden case, because "it's terrible." The head of Ukraine, answering journalists' questions, tried to lower the significance of this case, saying that the Prosecutor General’s Office had more priority tasks, although an investigation should be carried out. But such gestures do not change anything. Zelensky became living proof of Trump's innocence and innocence.

The US president played the party brilliantly, imposing on Vladimir Zelensky a completely unnecessary role and quarreling him with the Democrats. Trump will hardly be able to wait for compromising on Biden from Kiev. The Ukrainian leadership will drag this matter with all its might, but the shadow of Biden has already been cast by the meeting of the presidents, as it became clear to American society that the owner of the Oval Office was unfairly accused and lied to. So far, Trump is far from winning the upcoming elections, but he undoubtedly won his first brilliant victory in the election campaign.
