The night of Monday's Emmygala takes place this year. Chernobyl is nominated in the best mini series category and director Johan Renck also has the chance to win a figurine for best director. The series depicting the events of the nuclear accident in the Soviet Union in 1986 is nominated in nineteen different categories.

Tough competition in the category

One of the series' nominations is Stellan Skarsgård. He can take home the prize for the best role for his efforts as Soviet energy minister Boris Sjtjerbina. Cultural news TV critics praised Skarsgård's actor efforts earlier this year and believe he deserves to win. But competition in the best miniseries category is fierce with acclaimed series such as Escape at Dannemora and Sharp objects as rivals.

For the Swedish part, a lot is about the Emmygalan about Chernobyl, and one of the nominated Swedes has already won when the gala started last weekend. Then Jakob Ihre brought home a figurine for the best photo for his work with Chernobyl.

Game of thrones record nominee

Nineteen nominations notwithstanding, Chernobyl is outclassed in the number of nominations of another HBO series. The Game of Thrones set a record in Emmys context with a total of 32 nominations. The series' eighth and final season aired last spring and both Emilia Clarke (Danaerys Targaryan) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) can take home the award for best starring role.

The Emmygalan takes place the night of September 23 Swedish time and is broadcast live from Los Angeles. Swedish viewers can see the gala in TV4 Play.
