The philosopher, a friend of Roman Polanski, said in the program "There is not a life in life" that the polemics around the filmmaker no longer have any place.

Pascal Bruckner affirms his convictions in his books as in his last essay on longevity, A brief eternity, but also on the airwaves. He does not hesitate to designate personalities he does not like, just like those he admires. Among them is Roman Polanski. The book of the philosopher Lunes de fiel was also adapted by the French-Polish filmmaker in 1992. At the microphone of Isabelle Morizet, the philosopher defended the one who is also his friend, accused of rape in the United States.

The latest controversy associated with Roman Polanski came from his official selection in competition at the Venice Film Festival, a selection that rekindled the fire of critics. In this context, Pascal Bruckner is pleased that the filmmaker has received an award. "He had the Silver Lion for his new film, very beautiful, J'accuse. It probably would have had the Golden Lion if the president of the jury (Lucrecia Martel, editor's note) had not been hostile to him", said philosopher.

"Posterity will recognize its luster and talent"

"I think that Polanski, unfortunately, will drag this business until his death [...] But posterity will still recognize its luster and talent," says the philosopher. "For Roman Polanski, obviously it's terrible, but it's a man who has faced so many adversities that I think he can cross this one," says Pascal Bruckner, praising the vivacity of the filmmaker of 86 years and his "thousand projects".

As a reminder, Roman Polanski pleaded guilty in 1977 to the embezzlement of a minor for having had illegal sex with Samantha Geimer, then 13 years old. He fled the United States as a result of a change in the judge's position, which might have sentenced him to a heavier sentence than anticipated. American prosecutors are still trying to get him back to this country to receive his sentence.
