The family of the late Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali announced that his body will be buried on Saturday in Medina.

"Today, the body of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali will be buried after the Asr prayers in Medina and will be buried in the Holy Bekaa," wrote the president's brother-in-law, Karim Gharbi, who also lives in Saudi Arabia.

It is more likely that Ben Ali will be buried in Baqi al-Gharqad, the oldest Islamic cemetery in Medina since the time of the Prophet Muhammad.

His son-in-law, a rapper, explained earlier that Ben Ali "did not recommend burying him in Tunisia."

Zine El Abidine Ben Ali died on Thursday at the age of 83 after 23 years in Tunisia, before stepping down and living in Saudi Arabia after the popular uprising.

The death was absent from the headlines of the Tunisian media, which is preoccupied with the results of the presidential elections and the preparation of legislative elections on October 6th.
