According to a statement from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Hatari's coup was a violation of the rules. The EBU does not want to reveal how much fines were demanded by Iceland's public service companies, but states that they "are in line with the competition rules". The fines have not yet been paid, as they have been appealed.

Hatari's numbers attracted attention during Eurovision, partly because the number was inspired by BDSM and partly because the members made a critical statement against Israel as a country during the competition. Hatari came in tenth place.
