Washington - The remains of a Florida man who went missing more than 21 years ago in a lake after being spotted by Google Earth have been found by US authorities, authorities said on Friday.

The office of the Palm Beach police chief said in a Facebook post that the body of William Mult, who was reported missing on 8 November 1997, was recovered and positively identified.

The office added that a person living in the Grand Isles area (north of Miami) was using Google Earth in the area and noted what appeared to be a vehicle in a water lake behind his residence.

A survey of the area was carried out and the authorities had already found the skeleton of the missing man inside the car, which was heavily calcined because it had been left in the water for a long time.

Police said the remains were identified after being examined by forensic authorities.
