Reading of newspapers and books is falling among children of all age groups, and that change has been going on since the State Media Council began to ask the question in 2012. Then, 27 percent of all 18-year-olds stated that they read every day - now the figure is down to 11 percent. The differences are significantly smaller among children aged 12-13, but the study shows that daily reading decreases with the child's rising age.

A large proportion of the teenagers also state that they themselves think they devote too much to the mobile and too little to read newspapers and books.

However, among children aged 0-8, reading - or parents' reading - is very common, the only media activity that takes up more time in the age group is film and television. Children between the ages of 2-4 spend more time reading than other media activities, but even in this group, reading decreases with increasing age.
