According to Zharov, a year ago, on the eve of the elections in 2018, Roskomnadzor with Google and Facebook discussed in detail the need to comply with Russian legislation that political advertising is prohibited on the day of silence.

He added that on election day, the search results from Yandex and Google for identical queries, such as “election 2019”, “whom should I vote for”, were “completely different”.

“That's why we are saying that Google and Facebook deliberately tried to influence the results of the elections that took place on September 8,” Zharov said.

Earlier, Facebook, in response to a statement by Roskomnadzor on political advertising on the day of silence and election day, reported that advertisers posting their content on social networks were responsible for observing the electoral laws of countries.

In turn, Google said that "they support responsible political advertising and expect it to comply with local legal requirements, including election laws."
