Abu-Haitham dreams of being able to see his three children, who have reached their final year of school, have graduation certificates and are moving towards their careers. The father had spent all his savings on the treatment of his eldest son «Haitham», 24 years old, because of cancer.

Abu Haytham, a Jordanian, explains that his son suffered bone cancer five years ago, but was able to triumph over his illness and continue his university studies in information technology and security, but is unable to pay his final year fees.

He added that he was also unable to pay the university fees to his two other sons (Hashim and Muhannad), who are in the last academic year at Ajman University (2019-2020) in the faculties of electrical engineering, information technology and security.

Abu Haytham told Emirates Today that his children would be deprived of continuing their university studies because of his difficult financial situation. The university record shows that students are enrolled in the university and are in their last academic year.

The father, who heads a family of five, had worked for a private company, but had to quit his job in 2017 and became without a source of income.

In 2015, his son, Haitham, developed bone cancer during his stay in Jordan, prompting him to spend his entire savings on his treatment.

He added that he brought his son to the UAE, where he received chemotherapy sessions in the oncology department of Tawam Hospital, Al Ain, after he was exempted from the fees and stayed in the hospital for one year and eight months. As his health improved, he and his two brothers joined Ajman University. They finished their fourth year of 2018-2019 with good grades.

The father said that his financial situation was good at the beginning, he paid university fees to his children regularly until they finished the fourth school year, and they have a final year left, adding that he did not expect his financial situation to worsen significantly during this period, but this is what happened because he was unemployed.

He explained that he had to sell his car and some of his belongings so that his children could complete their studies, but the financial obligations and debts accumulated on him until he was unable to pay the fees.

The father continued: «I dream of graduating my children and become engineers in the disciplines they chose and dreamed of since childhood, but they need 317 thousand and 413 dirhams, to get a university degree.

I am also facing the problem of paying rent for the house we live in. The rent arrears amounted to 28 thousand dirhams, and the owner of the house demands me to pay it, otherwise we will be evicted, hoping that the good people will help him until the dream of his sons to become engineers, as he hopes.
