The second wave of accusations against the tenor Plácido Domingo has begun to leave sequels. The Dallas Opera has decided to cancel the charity gala scheduled for March 2020 with Sunday as the star.
Dallas is not an ordinary opera. It has a special meaning for Sunday. In that place the Spanish singer made his debut in the United States 58 years ago, in 1961. It is the third institution that decides to disconnect from the singer after the announcements of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Opera.
At the moment, the Metropolitan of New York has decided to maintain the planned performances with the singer for the next month waiting for the results of the investigation that is being carried out by the Los Angeles Opera. Domingo has been running that institution since 2003 and is currently in office.
On August 13, a group of nine women took the step to denounce the situations of sexual harassment, abuse of power and improper behavior by Domingo , testimonies collected by the American agency Associated Press (AP). This Thursday, the same agency published a second story with 11 new testimonies accusing the Madrid tenor of the same kind of abusive actions.
The only one who has decided to speak openly is soprano Angela Turner Wilson, a 48-year-old woman who now teaches singing in the Dallas area and shared the stage with Sunday in Washington 20 years ago.
Wilson has said that Domingo grabbed her breasts without consent and with violence, to the point of harming her. Domingo, on the other hand, has denied history and has ensured that the wave of accusations is a campaign by the AP agency to discredit his figure.
The Dallas Opera announced the cancellation of the gala with Domingo as the protagonist through his Twitter account and for the moment he has not wanted to comment further.
