A sniper rescued a woman held hostage by her kidnapper more than two hours after a failed negotiation between the police and the kidnapper for her release.

Surveillance cameras inside a subway station in southern China documented scenes of a man who randomly picked a woman, threatened her with a knife and dragged her hand to one corner of the subway.

Chinese police soon arrived and began negotiating with the kidnapper to free the woman, but he refused.

At the time, the sniper, named Zeng Hao, who works for China's counter-terrorism, was preparing his weapon to snatch the hijacker, and shot him from a distance of 61 meters inside the subway station.

The sniper was hit in the head, which led to his immediate death.
