INTERVIEW

Novels, plays, films and even sometimes actors: Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt seems to always have a news. The prolific author is again present in September this year with his book Journal d'un amour perdu. In L'Equipée sauvage on Europe 1, the writer evokes a funny anecdote. Faced with his many book ideas, his publisher offered him a "negro" to write a novel in his name, in his place.

"Your name is a brand, so we can find you somebody"

"Once I hesitated between writing several books," recalls Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, who says he has "a 'garden' book" still unpublished. "It was a problem of writing surplus, but my editor thought I had a problem with writing," he continues.

It was then proposed to engage a "negro". "'Your name is a brand, so you can find someone', my publisher told me," says the writer. Eric Emmanuel Schmitt refused, not without being surprised by this proposal. "I was divided between pride and absolute anger," recalls the author of The Gospel According to Pilate .
