In August, a Vietnamese agricultural apprentice arrested in a case in which a couple in their 70s were killed in a house in Yachiyo, Ibaraki Prefecture, was usually working in the field near the couple's house. I learned anew from interviews. The police are investigating details such as whether they had no contact with the couple.

In the early morning of August 24th, in a house in Hiratsuka, Yachiyo-cho, Isao Osato (76) died of a stabbed chest, etc., and a 73-year-old wife was stabbed by an abdomen. A Vietnamese agricultural apprentice, Nguyen Din Hai (21), who lives about 1.5 kilometers away from the site, was arrested on the 2nd on the suspicion of attempted murder on his wife.

According to the police, Nguyen came to Japan as an agricultural apprentice and had a resident status until November, and was living together with other foreign apprentices in a dormitory in Yachiyo.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Nguyen was usually engaged in farming such as vegetable cultivation in the field near Mr. Osato's house.

The police are investigating details such as whether they had no contact with the couple.

Arrested residents

In response to the arrest of the suspect, the residents around the site said that they were relieved.

A woman in her 70s said, “I couldn't sleep at night because of anxiety. I was worried from my friend. I was relieved that the suspect was arrested.”

The man in his 40s also said, “I felt longer than I thought until the suspect was arrested. The children were relieved because they did n’t go out at night.”
