"Hurricane Dorian reached fifth category with a wind speed of 160 miles per hour," the report said.
Currently, the storm is approaching the northern part of the Bahamas.
Earlier, an emergency mode was introduced in South Carolina in connection with the approach of Dorian.
A special regime also operates in the US states of Florida and Georgia.
US leader Donald Trump warned that a number of US states could be more seriously affected by the hurricane than expected.
