EUROPE 1 ACCOMPANES YOU

Because they want to restore their body image or simply feel better about themselves, some women use a breast implant. Wednesday, at the microphone of Mélanie Gomez, in Europe 1, Sébastien Garson, plastic surgeon, president of the French company of Sofcep, the French plastic surgeons' society, answers the questions that one asks oneself on this surgery that has existed for more than 60 years.

What is a breast implant placement?

It is a surgical operation that will last between one hour and 1:30. The surgeon will make an incision in the chest and create a box for the implant. The body will then create a natural envelope around this implant to separate this device from the body. This operation can be performed on an outpatient basis or require an overnight stay in the hospital depending on the situation.

How much does it cost ?

It is necessary to count between 3,500 and 4,500 euros for a posture of breast implants knowing that the immense majority of these operations are not taken in charge by the health insurance.

Can we rework in the wake of the operation?

Any surgery is painful even if doctors do their utmost to limit it. Post-operative delay is recommended for patients, especially if they have a physical activity that mobilizes their arms a lot. They are advised to stay at home for one to two weeks instead of re-engaging immediately.

Where are the scars?

The goal of the game in plastic surgery is to minimize scars. After such an intervention, the incisions can be made in the hollow of the armpit, at the junction between the areola and the breast or under the breast. It should be known that any scar has an inflammatory phase. She will blush until the fourth month before bleaching.

Is it recommended to get pregnant with implants and can you breastfeed?

This does not pose any particular problem for either pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What is the life of a prosthesis?

Like any prosthesis, implants are to change one day or another in one's life even if there is no danger to health. Currently, the latest generations of implants are solid. Their lifespan is estimated at 10-15 years. In France, there are prostheses filled with physiological saline and implants in silicone gel. When the first ones pierce, the liquid will be absorbed by the body and the breast will deflate. The patient is easily alerted. In the case of a silicone gel implant, it is more difficult to know when the implant is pierced. It is therefore necessary to regularly review his surgeon to clinically verify the integrity of the prostheses.

In April, the national drug safety agency decided as a precaution to remove from the market macro-textured prostheses suspected of favoring lymphoma. Should patients with this implant need to worry?

Whatever its implant, it is necessary to have a follow-up with your doctor and, if necessary, to make additional examinations in case of doubt. It should be known that this type of lymphoma is very rare and especially that it is well tracked for several years. Today, one can perform a simple diagnosis and generally, if one detects a lymphoma, simply remove the implant to solve the problem.
