During the morning, the Swedish Academy Award was presented by the Swedish Film Institute. The film selected to compete in the best international feature film during the gala was Levan Akins And then we danced.

The film is about Merad dancing in the Georgian dance company. Merab falls in love with her male rival and when asked during the press conference whether the film could have competed on Georgia's behalf, director Levan Akin responds that it would be difficult "considering the content".

- The film has not received any support from Georgia, which is very boring, but that was also why we made the film. Not just for Georgia but because the whole world is quite divided.

Roma won last year

But it is far from certain that the Swedish grant goes all the way to the gala. Each country has a chance to nominate a movie and then a few are selected.

Last year, Border was nominated for the so-called short list, but did not become one of the final five entries in the category of best non-English-language films. Last year Roma won in that category. New for this year is that the international category has changed from name from "best non-English speaking" to "best international feature film".

The Oscars gala will take place on February 9, 2020.
