Yokohama “Seaside Line” to resume automatic operation on 31st August 11:45

In June, the new operating system "Seaside Line" in Yokohama, which caused a reverse running accident during unmanned automatic driving, was suspended this month as the operating company had prepared measures to prevent recurrence. I decided to resume from the 31st.

This was revealed at a press conference by the operating company.

Yokohama City's new transportation system, “Seaside Line”, in late June, the car was running backwards and collided with a car stop, and 17 passengers were injured according to the operating company.

The operating company stopped unattended automatic driving and the driver continued to operate by manually maneuvering, but as a result of investigating the cause of the accident, the cable of the device in the vehicle was disconnected and the traveling direction was switched, It means that the cause was that there was no system to detect the disconnection and the emergency brake was not applied.

For this reason, in the event of a disconnection, the system was automatically rehabilitated with an emergency brake, and the operation company confirmed safety through trial operation after taking measures to prevent recurrence by introducing a mechanism that can detect the disconnection at the command center. We decided to resume autonomous driving from 31st of this month.

However, for the time being, it means that security personnel are on board to prepare for emergencies.

“We are committed to working together to restore trust and promise to prevent such an accident from happening again,” said Akihiko Mikami, president of the operating company.
