Even in the 21st century, people continue to believe in the supernatural, especially if a difficult life situation seems insoluble and personal happiness is at stake. Then the rich imagination of the inhabitants turns into a source of income for enterprising young people.

Alexey Devyatov and Pavel Purgin work like detective stories: they monitor social networks, monitor and eavesdrop, and do not forget about the deductive method. But the results of their work invariably turn into a performance - customers should think that their clairvoyant Svetozar has solved their problems (for their own, an ordinary guy Andrei Goncharov). The success of the enterprise attracts the attention of the police, and along with the blogger Alice, who visits magicians and mediums, only to expose scammers.

The film begins on a fun and grotesque note. Goncharov, Devyatov and Purgin seem to be seasoned businessmen (and in some ways even cynics), but the general mood of the tape is gradually changing. Heroes still come in comical situations, but more and more serious topics appear. The images of the characters, including secondary ones, become more voluminous: the impression of the heroes is made up of details elegantly inscribed in the action, and actions become a logical continuation of these images.

Even the classic tricks look fresh and believable thanks to the humor familiar to the audience on the TV series “Streets of Broken Lights” and “Deadly Force” (scriptwriter Andrei Kivinov worked on all three projects). In The Wizard, by the way, law enforcement officers are devoted far less screen time - although, according to the original plan, the former police officer was supposed to be the main character.

“Here was just a story: the role of the person who installs all kinds of listening elements for work. Indeed, there are services that do this, I wanted to show this service. But then I thought that it was very difficult to pull on comedy, and it was rather technical in itself, and not funny, and so I decided to just remake it on a non-police theme, ”RT Kivinov said.

The heroes of The Wizard are the people we see every day in our yard, in the subway, at work, and sometimes even among friends and relatives. These guys are not like blockbuster heroes who solve problems with one left. On the contrary, they do stupid things, wishful thinking and drive themselves into deadlocks. They have long since left adolescence, but they cannot be called mature individuals. So, neither the ladies man Andrei, nor the exemplary family man Aleksey have worldly wisdom or developed emotional intelligence.

For actor Yuri Chursin, the “wizard” Svetozar became a role within a role.

“My character is Andrey Goncharov - he is not confident in himself, therefore he is hiding behind the bravado of Svetozar. And Svetozar is an absolute genius: he simply gives people magic. He has no doubt about anything. For me, the starting point, of course, was the image of Goncharov, and then it was played like Goncharov would play Svetozar, ”said Chursin.

The creators of "The Wizard" define the genre of the series as a "comedy detective", but there is not much detective there. As events unfold, when Andrei and Alice find themselves in a world of respectable people and a lot of money, their relationship and nerves will be tested for strength. However, the lack of intrigue is compensated by the action (especially impressionable spectators will be made to worry by the scene of "abduction" of the unfaithful husband).

Although the film deals with “magicians”, “mediums” and other “magicians”, the authors focus not on quackery, but on magic of a different kind. In particular, they remind viewers of the value of human relationships and that the presence of miracles in people's lives depends on themselves. With the help of fraud heroes, we understand: magic is possible thanks to scientific progress and human ingenuity, and minor events like a romantic dinner can make fantastic adjustments to a person’s fate.
