Israel struck the position of a pro-Syrian and pro-Hezbollah Palestinian movement in eastern Lebanon on Sunday night between 25 and 26 August, reported the group and Lebanese state media.

The air raids came hours after the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah threatened Israel with reprisals in the wake of an armed drone attack on its stronghold in Beirut, which the Jewish state has not confirmed.

"Three hostile strikes" targeted after midnight the outskirts of the eastern city of Qoussaya "where there are military positions of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC)," the agency said. Lebanese press ANI.

"In response, anti-aircraft fire took place," added ANI, without identifying the origin of these shots.

These are Israeli strikes, however, said PFLP-CG spokesman Anwar Raja on Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen television.

The PFLP-GC is a Palestinian group close to the Syrian regime and the Hezbollah movement. It has positions in the Bekaa Valley (east) and Naamé, south of Beirut.

In July 2015, a security official reported that an explosion on a PFLP-GC basis had injured seven people. The Palestinian group accused Israel of being behind the raid.

Israel's first act of aggression in Lebanon since 2006

On Sunday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah presented the armed drone attack against his stronghold in Beirut as Israel's "first act of aggression" in Lebanon since the 2006 war between Israel and the Shiite movement, which had 1,200 dead on the Lebanese side and 160 on the Israeli side.

Israel has not confirmed the attack, but said it had bombed targets in neighboring Syria on Saturday night to prevent an Iranian attack on its territory by drones.

Considered by Israel and the United States as a "terrorist organization", Hezbollah's powerful armed movement is a major political player in Lebanon. He is also involved in the Syrian conflict in support of the regime, along with Iran, another arch-enemy of Israel.
