The future of small cars is uncertain. Some companies have written the end chapter for their small models, while others are trying to save the fate of their small models by switching to electric motors instead of internal combustion engines.

According to Volkswagen President Herbert Des, the A and A0 segments have no promising outlook in the light of the exhaust specification requirements. He explained that many cars will face a dark future such as Volkswagen Up, Polo, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii.

To confirm this pessimistic view of the future of small cars, Opel has already pulled its Karl and Adam off the market, with no models being developed to inherit their throne, and Ford Ka nearing the finish line. In addition, rumors of departure depart around the trio of Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1.

Electric motors now represent the lifeblood of small cars. Volkswagen has updated its Up electric vehicle, and SMART has decided to refer internal combustion engines to retire and rely on electric motors in its small cars.

Mini is also developing a small electric car. In addition, Peugeot and Opel have announced the availability of electric models from 208 and Corsa from the start.
