ROYAL HOLIDAYS - This summer, Emmanuel Duteil makes us discover each Sunday the life of the royal families. Seventh and final stage: Jordan, where the royal couple of Abdallah II and Rania detonate by its modernity.

IT'S WORTH THE DETOUR

Last step of our series on the crowned heads and direction Jordan and the royal palace of Amman. No chance to visit it is the place of residence of the family of King Abdullah II. The place is very well kept and never open to the public. It will therefore be enough to admire the imposing building from afar.

A "trekkie" at the controls of Jordan

If you ever need to see King Abdullah again under high security, you can try to greet him with a "Vulcan salute" (palm forward with fingers spread between the middle finger and the ring-shaped "V" and with the thumb extended). Indeed, the king of Jordan is a "trekkie", an unconditional fan of the Star Trek series. To the point that he even played a very small role in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager , in 1996. At the time, he was not yet a monarch. His passion for intergalactic explorations led him to open a Star Trek attraction in Aqaba, Jordan's famous seaside resort.

Abdallah should not have become king. The Crown Prince has long been his uncle, the brother of King Hussein. But, at the last moment, his father decided otherwise. At the age of 57, Abdallah II has been ruling Jordan for 20 years. A complex mission because in Jordan the king has real prerogatives. He really manages the Hashemite Kingdom, as it is called. And it is not easy in view of the perpetual crisis that the region is going through.

Rania, Queen of Jordan and ... of Instagram

The king of Jordan is also well known thanks to his wife, Queen Rania, whom he married in 1993. Always very elegant, she never wears the veil and invests enormously in causes that are close to her heart, such as the protection of child victims of violence and abuse. She has written a children's book. Her modernity and commitment make her often presented as one of the most influential women in the world.

It must be said that Jordan is a monarchy that communicates a lot, starting with Rania. It is followed by 5.5 million people on Instagram! The queen posts a lot of photos with her children in particular, the couple has four. Abdallah and Rania convey the image of a very modern family and at the same time very respectful of the traditions of Jordan. Crown Prince Hussein ben Abdallah, 25, who occupies an increasingly important place in the activities of the royal family, is also a lot. He will probably have to take the place of his father when he dies.

All summer, discover the crowned heads on Europe 1:

>> In Denmark , a very French royal family

>> In Bhutan , a young royal couple for an Instagram monarchy

>> In Thailand , a rigid monarchy but a king adept of escapades

>> In the Netherlands , a royal family of bon vivants

>> In Japan , a new emperor facing ancestral traditions

>> Luxembourg , the last Grand Duchy still in place
