Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the completion of 56% of the RTA Smart Traffic Systems Expansion Project, which is being implemented under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The project contributes to increase the coverage rate of the main road network in the Emirate of smart traffic systems from 11% currently to 60%, and improve the time of monitoring of accidents and congestion In the Emirate's roads and speed of response.

Al Tayer said: “The TRA has started installing new changing electronic boards in the main streets to provide instant traffic information to drivers on the state of the road network. The project includes the installation of 112 new changing electronic boards based on the latest international technologies. In Dubai and around major event areas such as Expo 2020, to provide real-time traffic information to road users on the state of the road network such as traffic congestion or traffic accidents as well as display important messages, tips and advice related to peace To increase the efficiency of traffic management, pointing out that the new plates are divided into two types (according to the classification of the road and the number of tracks and traffic sizes on it), the first type: plates placed on the side of the road, and the second: large plates covering all road routes, where the Authority has completed the installation 18 panels are underway to complete the installation of the remaining panels according to the project schedule.

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors explained that the project to expand the intelligent traffic systems consists of five packages, including, besides the installation package of changing electronic panels, the package specialized in the installation of traffic monitoring and information collection systems, which includes the installation of 116 cameras, 100 accident detection and vehicle counting, In addition, 114 flight time and speed calculators and 17 weather sensors were installed. The third package includes the implementation of infrastructure related projects such as civil works to extend the fiber optic network for communication between on-site devices and central systems, covering approximately 450 K The fourth package includes the implementation of the work of developing the software of the advanced traffic central system, which contributes to support decision-making, and provides automatic response plans, where the central system integrates with the field equipment and analysis of data from them and activate the appropriate plans. The fifth package includes the construction of a new traffic control center building to implement the latest international standards in the design of control centers of devices and monitors huge and user-friendly and effective control systems for operators Engineering of intelligent traffic systems, taking into account the design of future expansions of systems in the coming stages.

The RTA's Intelligent Traffic Systems Expansion Project is one of the outputs of the Innovation Lab (RTA 2030), approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and includes the design and implementation of an integrated smart traffic infrastructure in Dubai and the establishment of a new control center in Dubai. When completed, the project will facilitate the management of traffic congestion and accidents, enhance the safety of road users, and improve personal mobility in conjunction with modern technology.
