The escalation of threats made by Boris Johnson to the EU reached a new dimension yesterday in line with his meeting with Angela Merkel . At the gates of the German Chancellery, the British Prime Minister declared with as much emptiness as unfavorable the impossibility of accepting the agreement reached between his predecessor and Brussels. Despite the fact that the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, had already warned him of the impossibility of abolishing the Irish safeguard, Johnson insisted yesterday on the fallacious need to eliminate the backstop by making the United Kingdom "prisoner". Even so, the German chancellor opened a door to understanding, estimating that an agreement that avoids the current blockade is still possible. But instead of proposing alternatives, Johnson continues to boycott the process every time he has occasion: if he intimidated Monday with "ending" the current freedom of movement, yesterday he gloated when he announced that the United Kingdom will only attend the community meetings he considers.

This crude strategy of spreading a speech in favor of the exit to the braves to try to be heard will end in an unwanted break for all parties . Johnson's irresponsibility will be paid by all but, above all, the British.
