The Matrix movie series will return to the big screen with a fourth installment, which will be directed by Lana Wachowski and starring again Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, advanced on Wednesday exclusively the specialized media Variety .
The Warner Bros Pictures studios will produce and handle the distribution of the future installment, which Wachowski currently writes, who created this sci-fi film universe with her sister Lilly in 1999.
In addition to the filmmaker, Reeves and Moss will also repeat in their roles as Neo and Trinity.
"We can't contain the excitement of re-entering 'The Matrix' with Lana Wachowski," Warner Bros Pictures president Toby Emmerich said in remarks to Variety.
"Lana is a true visionary, a unique and original creative filmmaker, and we are delighted that she writes, directs and produces this new chapter in the universe of 'The Matrix'," he said.
The production of the film is scheduled to begin in early 2020, once Wachowski finishes the script, a task in which the writer Aleksandar Hemon and the filmmaker David Mitchell will also collaborate.
For his part, Wachowski's sister, Lilly, who co-directed the original film, will not be involved in this installment, since she will focus on her new project, the "Work in Progress" series, Rolling Stone magazine detailed .
