Thomas Mattsson started at Expressen for the first time in 1991 and has worked on the magazine as sports editor, sports reporter, general reporter and Crime reporter. In 2009 he took over as editor-in-chief of the newspaper after Otto Sjöberg.

- I've been editor-in-chief for ten years. There have been no missing challenges, but it has been fantastic in the crowd that I have been felled, celebrated, threatened and hated. When I took office, I said I would be editor-in-chief for five years, but it was very fun, so I continued, Thomas Mattsson tells the Culture News.

But now you are tired?

- No, no I'm not tired, I'm editor-in-chief for 50 minutes and I'm ready to end this conversation if I have to make a publishing decision. If you are editor-in-chief at Expressen, you never want to quit. It is to write Swedish contemporary history, but you can not be it forever, I think everyone agrees.

Criticism against criticism

In the industry, Thomas Mattsson has made himself known to be very involved in all of the newspaper's publications and has been criticized by some for deflecting criticism, including when he went against the precipices that the press opinion committee made against the newspaper in connection with the Metoo movement. But Thomas Mattsson does not agree that he would be bad at accepting criticism.

- I would like to point out that my first decision was to introduce a fixed place for corrections, Expressen is the only newspaper that has a link where you can report to PO. We have been praised by PO for even publishing blame on the flyer. However, it has been important to me that just because one is criticized one should not accept that criticism.

What are you going to do now?

- I've worked quite a few hours and rarely go to bed before 02. When Otto Sjöberg (Mattsson's representative at the post) stopped, he was asked what to do now and replied: "Sleeping". I thought it sounded strange then, but now I understand it a little better.

For the time being, the editorial staff will be led by Klas Granström as acting editor and cultural director Karin Olsson as deputy responsible publisher. Thomas Mattsson will continue for some time at Expressen and Bonnier and says he does not know what to expect.
