Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday proposed to parliament the transfer of the capital from Jakarta to Borneo.
The president made the proposal in his State of the Union address one day before the country celebrates the 74th anniversary of its independence.
He proposed establishing the new capital in Kalimantan on the Indonesian side of Borneo, which Jakarta shares sovereignty with Malaysia and Brunei.
