Jan Helin, SVT program director, former publisher at Aftonbladet

- He brought Expressen back to classic evening newspaper journalism, he is a fast and skilled editor who has stood up for his journalism in wet and dry.

What do you mean by classic evening newspaper journalism?

- He took back domestic politics with lust and vigor and deepened the foreign report. He introduced things that Expressen has historically been good at, that campaign, the campaign for Dawit Isaak has been one of the clearest examples.

What was he less good at?

- I really appreciated him as a competitor, he was fast. The time I thought he was wrong was in the reviews by Jan Guillou, they became obsessed with pointing him as a Russian spy on swaying grounds.

Who do you want to see as his successor?

- So far I have not thought yet, but it is important that both evening newspapers have creative and knowledgeable publishers. Thomas Mattsson has undoubtedly been one. It is important to be able to understand their history and role in the media landscape, but also to do the analysis of today's landscape and how fast it is changing.

Peter Wolodarski, editor-in-chief of Dagens Nyheter

- He has left a big impression and I have a tremendous respect for his drive and courage, especially regarding the campaign for Dawit Isaak and the reviews of xenophobia. It has been an incredible effort and he leaves a void behind. I will miss him.

- He has had the significance for Expressen that it has become stronger since he started, the gap to Aftonbladet has narrowed and they are strong digitally.

Who do you want to see as his successor?

- I don't know, it's a big and important job, difficult. You should have respect for that. I hope it will be a strong publicist voice that can carry on the work Thomas has driven.

Lena K Samuelsson, publisher Aftonbladet (via sms)

“Thomas Mattsson has been a classic evening newspaper editor, intensive and driven with a big heart for Expressen. He has a strong commitment to publicist and media policy issues which I hope he will have the opportunity to continue pursuing ”.
