A boy was killed after sniping a crocodile during a cruise near the southern Philippine town of Balabac, the Star Online newspaper reported.

The boy was aboard a boat with two of his older brothers who were surprised by the crocodile devouring the child between his jaws.

Philippine police reports said a fisherman found the remains of the child in the mud.

Urban development in the Philippines and a growing population have led to the shrinking of crocodile habitats that are now living in increasingly narrow swamps.

The situation resulted in several incidents in which people died or were injured by crocodiles.

Saltwater crocodile attacks have increased as their natural habitat shrinks.

The saltwater crocodile is the largest reptile in the world, with a length of up to six meters and a ton.
