In the last electoral campaign, there was no political party that did not include in its program a set of more or less well-intentioned proposals to capture the vote of citizens who, because they live in what is already known as empty Spain , suffer from a lack of services that de facto makes them second-class Spaniards. However, no one noticed an essential aspect that is increasing inequality in these areas of the country, with special emphasis on those over 60 years. As we publish today, in 2025, that is, in just over five years, 5% of the Spanish population will not have access to cash , due to the gradual disappearance of bank branches, ATMs and mobile offices. This fact, which already affects 3% of Spaniards, most of them neighbors of towns with less than 500 inhabitants, breaks equal opportunities , puts thousands of small businesses at risk in rural areas, causes the exclusion of older people and violates the right of every citizen to perform non-digital operations to protect their confidentiality .

The institutions are still on time to avoid these damages with determined and effective actions, beyond the electoral rhetoric.
