August 13 marks 120 years since the birth of Alfred Hitchcock. His career in the cinema was prompted by work in a telegraph company. There, the future director served as the artist of the advertising department, and from there went to the position of a title designer in the London branch of the future Paramount Pictures film studio. Before the release of his first film, “The Garden of Pleasure,” Hitchcock also managed to try his hand at the roles of screenwriter and artist. He skillfully used cinematic techniques to create the effect of suspense, and thus forever changed the thriller genre. His films, including Psycho, North to the Northwest, Birds, Window on the Courtyard and Lady Vanishes, have become classics of world cinema. The brightest stars of that time - Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, James Stewart collaborated with Hitchcock, and his work influenced the work of the next generations of directors.
