American Steven Avery was released in 2003 after serving an 18-year prison sentence for a rape he had not committed. In 2005, he was sentenced again, along with his nephew Brendan Dassey, for murdering a female photographer.

In February of this year, Steven Avery's lawyer said evidence in the form of bone debris had been misused during the investigation and believed it could lead to a trial permit.

But now a Wisconsin judge announces that the new evidence is not enough to warrant a new trial.

Steven Avery has since pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and, along with his attorneys, has repeatedly tried to appeal the verdict.

"Making a Murderer", the Netflix series depicting the case, has aired in two seasons that came in 2015 and 2018.
