A man has lost his right leg after suffering a serious bacterial infection from a foot injury on Hamonast Beach, Connecticut.

Bruce Kagan, 68, did not pay attention to the wound as a young man, he told NBC News, but days later he felt pain and went to the hospital.

There, doctors told him the disastrous news. He had "fasciitis," a disease caused by deadly bacteria that quickly eat soft tissue.
After days of unsuccessful attempts to contain the disease and eliminate bacteria, doctors were forced to remove the man's leg from above the knee, in order to save his life.
