West Japan heavy rain recovery construction to increase planned price Background of labor shortage on August 8 at 14:19

In the restoration and reconstruction work from the heavy rain in West Japan last July, there were a number of cases where bids were not made due to the labor shortage of construction companies, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism The calculation method has been revised and the planned price has been raised.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, there are a number of cases in which bids have not been established for restoration / reconstruction from heavy rains in West Japan against the background of rising labor costs in the construction industry due to labor shortages and the shortage of dump trucks that transport materials.

For this reason, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has revised the calculation method for some expenses and raised the planned price after 19th of this month for the work ordered in Hiroshima Prefecture so that the work can proceed smoothly.

Specifically, we will increase the cost of construction indirectly by 10%, such as transporting materials using dump trucks and installing fences to surround the construction site.

In addition, the amount of work that a contractor should perform per day is set to be 20% less than usual so that a limited number of workers can handle the work in a shortage of labor.

At the press conference after the cabinet meeting, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ishii said, “We will make every effort to restore and recover quickly by closely coordinating with the affected areas.”
