Evoked in one of the most famous songs of Jacques Brel, the city of Vesoul now has a huge portrait of the Belgian legend on one of its walls.

"You wanted to see Vesoul and we saw Vesoul ..." The giant portrait of Jacques Brel was painted on the facade of a nine-storey building in the Montmarin district of the city that gave its name to a famous song of the Belgian artist. The deep look, the face of "Grand Jacques" is painted yellow, on a sparkling green background. It stands above the bars of buildings of the popular district Montmarin.

28 meters high by 12 wide

28 meters high and 12 meters wide, the work of the artist Pink Art Roz covers the entire facade made available by the Habitat 70 social lessor. Stencilled and perched on a basket, this Vésulienne from 44 years used 175 liters of paint to realize the portrait. "This is the largest fresco of street art in Burgundy-Franche-Comté," says Marjorie Szymanski, head of the Contemporary Space of Urban Art (ECAU) Haute-Saone, at the origin of the project.

Jacques Brel introduced the city with his song Vesoul , which celebrated its 50th birthday last year. "It's a singer that crosses the generations, I wanted it to be the bridge between the Montmarin district and the heart of the city, separated by a national road," said Pink Art Roz. The portrait is visible from afar, "it erases this road and creates an identity common to the different spaces of the city".
