The 72nd Cannes Film Festival is coming to an end. The closing ceremony will take place from 19:15 Saturday. Palme d'Or, interpretation prize, staging prize ... Which films are favorites? Europe 1 takes stock.
Bong Joon Ho and Pedro Almodóvar, the two main favorites for the Palme d'Or
So far, the festival has gone off without a hitch. But will the winners be up to the expectations of festival-goers? This year, many very good films have been presented. The big favorite is the feature film by Korean director Bong Joon Ho, Parasite , a sort of metaphorical thriller about the left-out of society who come out of the sewers.
Another contender at the Palme, for both his film and his career: Pedro Almodóvar. The Spanish director presents his feature film "autofictional", as he calls himself, Pain and Glory. This is his sixth attempt to win the prestigious Palme d'Or. Finally the good?
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in the running for the Best Actor Award
As for interpretation prizes, there are many contenders for men. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio could be rewarded for Quentin Tarantino's movie, Once upon a Time ... in Hollywood , as well as August Diehl, the actor from Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life , or Marco Bellocchio, who plays a man who betrays the Sicilian mafia in The traitor .
A distinguished French actress?
For the female interpretation prize, it is mostly French women who are favorites: Adèle Haenel with Portrait of the girl on fire - for which the director Céline Sciamma received the Queer Palm - or Virginie Efira, impeccable in Sibyl, Justine Triet, presented Friday night.
Among the films that could also be distinguished are Ladj Ly's Les Miserables , which electrified the Croisette at the beginning of the Festival, or Ken Loach's new film about the uberisation of society, Sorry we missed you .
The competition is open, especially since it is a jury of specialists this year, seven of the nine jurors being directors with each of the very marked universes. The president, the Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu, will have the heavy task of putting everyone in agreement.
