A hundred people demonstrated on Friday in Brussels. Thirty people were arrested for carrying prohibited weapons on their way to the rally.

The movement of yellow vests also affects Belgium. A hundred people demonstrated Friday morning in Brussels, the first gathering called in the Belgian capital as part of this movement, said a spokesman for the police of the Belgian capital.

This spokeswoman, Ilse Van De Keere, said that about thirty people had already been arrested, including for "carrying prohibited weapons" by converging on the main meeting point.

Shortly after 11 am local (19 GMT) at the crossroads Arts-Law, not far from the European institutions and offices of the Prime Minister, the police had already identified "a small hundred" of protesters, according to her.

This crossroads is a frequent place of events in Brussels because of its visibility. It is a nerve center of car traffic. The police have also announced the closure of several road tunnels in the center.

First in Brussels

Launched two weeks ago in France to protest against the rise in fuel taxation, the yellow vests movement had spread in Wallonia but not yet in Flanders or in the capital. This is the first event invited to Brussels, via social networks, without a leader.

On Monday, a Belgian YouTubeur, Gary Ducran, decided to cancel a rally in Brussels authorized by the city he had called for this Friday via Facebook. He had invoked "too important specifications" imposed by the police, and a service of order according to him impossible to constitute as requested.

In Wallonia, Yellow Vests were repeatedly overwhelmed by thugs last week and the police made arrests by tens.
