A strong earthquake shook the south of the US state of Alaska and shook buildings in the city of Anchorage. The authorities tentatively issued a tsunami warning for some parts of the south coast. The police called the inhabitants of the Kodiak Islands off the coast to move to higher elevations.

According to a report in the newspaper Anchorage Daily News, the earthquake shook buildings in the city. On television recordings were cracked windows to see. There were reports of power outages. Initially, nothing was known about victims.

The US earthquake watch USGS gave the magnitude of the quake at 6.6, the US Weather Service said 7.0. The center of the quake was registered, according to USGS, about twelve kilometers north of Anchorage. It happened 43 kilometers deep.
