Doctors at the Moscow-based Organ Transplant Research Center have successfully transplanted both liver and lungs to a 9-year-old.

The director of the center, Sergey Gutier, said that the process of transplanting three members at the same time is unique in the world, and did not succeed any such operation when implemented on children.

The operation was performed on February 2 and took 16 hours. The child is now fully recovered and is ready to return home after suffering from cystic fibrosis.

"One must have tremendous power to endure such an operation," said Russian surgeon Gautier, who conducted the operation.

The boy had symptoms that threatened his health, where he was very weak and moved in his room with difficulty, and could not live without an oxygenated device. The disease affected the liver to the extent that it was infected with cirrhosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a serious hereditary disease, which can affect the lungs first, then the liver, intestines and pancreas.
