The Gard department is placed in vigil orange storms-floods by Météo France, Thursday, November 22

Two days after a storm, the Gard is again placed in orange alert for storms and rain-floods that should hit the department Friday, announced Thursday Météo France.

The meteorological forecast institute speaks of an "intense Mediterranean episode requiring special monitoring because of the large accumulations expected in the lowland areas" . He plans the start of this stormy episode at 11 am Friday and its end the same day at 22 pm.

From the late morning of Friday, stormy lines from the Mediterranean will touch the plains of Gard to the Cevennes. Thunderstorms are expected to shift eastward in the late evening, as also shown by the forecasts of our partner Agate Weather.

Heavy rainfall

The accumulations of rain can reach on the plain areas and Cevennes piedmont 50 to 80 mm, locally 100 to 120 mm. On the Cevennes, the accumulations will be of the order of 120 to 150 mm, locally 180 mm.

Tuesday night, Meteo France had placed Gard in orange alert around 22 pm after a storm and precipitation whose violence had not been anticipated on the Petite Camargue and including the Vauvert area, the most affected city. Some 181 mm of rainfall had fallen on Vauvert in less than five hours.

Some 150 people had been evacuated from a campsite in the town during the night and flooding had caused flooding in this area between the south of Nimes and south-east of Montpellier.
