Hundreds of Internet users have criticized a dress inspired by the US-North Korean summit hosted by Singapore earlier this year, which is due to be worn by the country's candidate for the Miss Universe contest at the finals of the competition next month.

The Singaporeans criticized the design, unveiled on Thursday night, because it contained foreign flags and described it as "ridiculous".

The dress, designed by Mui Qasim, a resident of Singapore, has a pair of bathroom wings stretched out at the top of the back of the dress and a peace symbol sewn across the neckline.

The skirt of the dress shows two arms, one wrapped in American flag and the other with North Korean flag, in a strong handshake, while pictures of buildings in Singapore decorate the edge of the skirt.

The designer said the dress was inspired by the June summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump, which was hosted in Singapore.

Amidst criticism, Zahra Khanoum, 24-year-old Miss Singapore, defended the design, describing the dress as "angelic in every sense of the word" and creating a "quiet" impression.
