Truck drivers have shielded a cyclist on the Autobahn 23 in Schleswig-Holstein with their vehicles and possibly saved him from a fatal accident.

The 21-year-old, who was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was on the road at Itzehoe in the evening on the entire width of the multi-lane road, according to police. Three truckers positioned themselves with their vehicles behind him.

As the officials in Itzehoe announced, the cyclist was apparently not ready to leave the highway. After about two kilometers, one of the truck drivers overtook the man, cautiously cut him off and went to him. After a few words, the cyclist collapsed. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

According to police, he had previously apparently taken drugs or alcohol and therefore temporarily lost consciousness. In the clinic, however, his condition improved. A preliminary investigation has been initiated. The incident happened last Thursday.
