The starting procedure of the Route du Rhum will be given at the beginning of the afternoon to allow the 123 skippers to definitively launch their transatlantic race to Pointe-à-Pitre. The start will be given at 2 pm off the Pointe du Grouin, east of Saint-Malo. At 17 miles from the starting line, the skippers will then have to cross a "gate" off Cape Frehel.

The start of the Route du Rhum 2018 is now imminent! 123 skippers will cut the starting line in the early afternoon according to a well-established procedure. ++ DIRECT Route du Rhum: follow the start of the race

The starting line is at Pointe du Grouin, east of Saint-Malo. The 123 boats will be spread over a line approximately 5.5 kilometers long, off the Grouin. At 13:52, the skippers will be really in racing mode, with the start of the start procedure itself. They will be alone on board. A final preparatory signal will be issued at 13:56.

Starting at 1:59 pm, participants will no longer be allowed to cross the start line. Otherwise, the guilty skippers will be penalized with a penalty of 4 hours, according to the race director Jacques Caraës. At 2 pm, the big cats will be finally released. At 17 miles from the starting line, the skippers will have to cross a gate at Cape Fréhel. Only participants will have to pass through this door, and no boat from the Route du Rhum must use the corridor reserved for boaters.
