The semester starts and with it again the question: how should one pay rent, books or the next journey?

Students in Germany have an average of 918 euros per month, according to the Social Survey of the German Student Union. According to this, most of the money goes on it for the warm rent (on average 323 euros), followed by 168 euros for food.

Many are working alongside studying because they want to "afford a little more" or (more) want "independence from their parents". According to the survey, 70 percent of female students and 66 percent of male students work.
