The children's books are piled up in the bookstores. Still, finding the right book for every age is not easy. Gladly you give away something that you have read as a child. An Erich Kästner is never wrong - but how about something new? Nine gift ideas for people from 1 to 16 years.

What reading pleasure!

headdress

So simple, so good: A discovery book for the little ones, in which classic examples such as the skater and bicycle helmet, the miner's helmet or the exotic model of a beekeeper appear and are reminded of historical predecessors.
The helmets collection results in a surprising mix of topics, which offers a lot of conversation.

Do not be afraid of nothing

This book was tested in a clinical test, popularly read aloud, on a child with spider anxiety and found to be good. In the study, it could be seen that the test child was actually freed from any spider anxiety.
Funny pictures and convincing lyrics had the desired effect on them, but unfortunately not without side effects: reading made you laugh. Spiders did not get hurt in the attempt.

Nice nonsense

It is enough now! The robbers Karl and Knäcke always bum around only at home, instead of properly clean up. One day, the good-for-nothings finally realize that rumbling can not go on forever and move on to their first break. But much more than money and gold, they are interested in the foreign spaces for other things they discover there. For example, instruments or sports equipment - and even a child.
So the boys return home without prey night after night - until they realize what their true vocation is. Nice funny-goofy story with wild illustrations.

Something for everyone

Come on, go to the forest or park to collect Christmas presents, er, sticks. Let's not forget (and the kids) how beautiful it is in the countryside and what you can do with wood, bark or pine cones.
From simple to difficult: a branch that looks like a snake with some color or a domino game that you can use the saw for. This craft book is full of uncomplicated ideas, the instructions are vivid and promising.

The Christmas story

Finally, the world learns what it was like at that time the sheep. At that time, before dizzy 2000 years. Because there was quite a lot going on in the pasture when the herd was awakened in the middle of the night by a bright star and discovered that the shepherds were gone.
When the rascals then learn that a baby with curly hair - juchu, a girl! - was born, they are thrilled and are also on their way to visit it. A funny story with a lot of situation comedy, but still a little bit the devotion of the Christmas season can be felt.
As a book, the story reads wonderful, but fortunately, the author Ulrich Hub has also sat down in front of the microphone and read. He gives each sheep its own voice - wonderful! My favorite: the lisping sheep with the braces. An audio book with added value.

Ooooh! Aaaah!

Milky Way, galaxy, solar system - all heard before. Where exactly are we and what is the big bang? With this book, an illustrator and an astrophysicist have tried to put a visit to a planetarium in a book. Side by side, a new aspect of the universe opens up and one moves further and further away from the earth.
Impressive are the large-format, dark illustrations, which are accompanied by understandable explanations. When reading, one truly marvels and philosophizes about the dimensions of the universe. A festive book in oversize, perfect under the Christmas tree.

A wish is free

A farm on Vancouver Island in Canada with the World War II in the background. Here, the twelve-year-old Franny lives with her foster parents on a huge estate. As three neighbor children move in with them, they also have a lot of problems in their luggage and with the contemplative life of the family is over for now.
Clever Franny tells humorous and clever (sometimes a bit precocious) about rural life, idiosyncratic children and quirky adults, and that there is a solution for everything - even if you have to do a little magic for it. A really nice winter story full of magic and surprising twists.

against forgetting

When the Wehrmacht approaches Leningrad in the summer of 1941, the twins Nadja and Viktor are evacuated along with thousands of other children. At the station they have to climb to their horror different trains and can barely promise to write for the other diary. Then begins a dramatic odyssey for both, which should end only in winter. An exciting book that, despite all the horrors, has an optimistic tone.
Striking is the design: The diaries of the children are printed as a facsimile and provided with comments of a Soviet official, the books fall into his hands a few years later. Thus, the story gets an additional historical dimension and becomes a challenging book, which is also interesting for older teens.

trust me

Vincent once had a safe life with nice parents, piano lessons and a semi-detached house. But that is over since his mother disappeared after the accidental death of his father into depression, and he must hold together the remains of family life alone. When the 16-year-old goes to his father's grave in great need, he meets Jane, who is both helpless and strong at the same time. And who manages that he does not give up completely and rediscovers his joie de vivre. Who the reader really is, the reader only suspects over time.
Schwindt manages to tell entertaining and at a good pace, to let interesting characters appear and to portray Vincent as a vulnerable young man. Only sometimes the language is a little bit anxious teen. No matter: Vincent is a good guy who likes to be accompanied by a play.
