One of the largest degraded condominiums in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is being evacuated this Friday. A total of 96 dwellings is concerned.

The evacuation of a building from one of the largest degraded condominiums in Marseille was announced this Friday long and delicate, in a city in the grip of an unprecedented crisis, with 1,500 people evacuated for four weeks from their dilapidated housing.

Rats, humidity, fights, decayed electricity ... Building A Corot Park and its 96 homes, in the northern neighborhoods, is known to concentrate the dangers. The crisis opened by the collapse of two buildings in the center of Marseille, which killed 8 people on November 5, precipitated its evacuation.

Order of "imminent insecurity"

In accordance with a decree of "imminent insecurity" made by the town hall on November 23, moving trucks were taking over this Friday morning the affairs of evacuees.

The municipality said it had initiated a "concerted evacuation procedure" : it "accompanies the voluntary relocation" of the 27 tenants and owners and "proposes relocation solutions" with the help of social landlords.

The unprecedented crisis in Marseille complicates the task of the authorities: for four weeks the second largest city in France has evacuated 193 buildings dilapidated and threatening to avoid a new tragedy. The inhabitants of building A Park Corot will add to the 1,509 people who found themselves homeless because of these evacuations and are usually relocated to the hotel, the other devices being saturated.
